July 2002

Many thanks for all your emails after our first newsletter - we were quite overwhelmed by all your compliments! We also received many suggestions on how we could improve the newsletter, some of which we've included this month. Oh, and by the way, feel free to forward this on to your colleagues or friends ...

Warm Regards,

Community

This month we're meeting for drinks at the 'City Arms', a traditional English pub with beers 'on tap' and good air conditioning! Like last month, we'll be at the bar between 1900-2100 and you can come and go as you like. We look forward to seeing you there.

For this month's cinema outing, we're going to see 'Spider-man'. The film has been a 'box office hit' in America, so we've got high expectations. Remember, everyone is welcome, so feel free to bring friends or family. We'll be waiting outside the cinema from 1920 ...

Edutainment

Last month's fish menu prompted several emails from people who know alot more about fish than I do. For example, Rosa Mauri from Carburos Metalicos told me that 'eglefino' should have been 'abadejo', 'langostina' should have been 'langosta', and 'camarón' can be used instead of 'gambas'.

This month we're addressing the issue of 'either' and 'neither' and I've included one of my favourite 'Far Side' cartoons:

-> Either we go today or we will never go (one or the other, therefore 'either').

-> Either he goes or I go, you decide (one or the other, therefore 'either').

-> Neither Mr.Jones nor Mr.Beard is in at the moment (no one).

-> Do you prefer tea or coffee? A1. Either (both - it's the same),
A2. Neither (no tea, no coffee - prefer other things like beer or water).

Programs

There is still time to sign up to our July Immersion Programs, but if you're already making plans for September, you may want to consider our Business English certification program. This is a part-time course for people who want to obtain a diploma in Business English (granted by the British Chamber of Commerce).

The part-time certification program runs in 12-week terms that start in September, January and April. Sessions alternate weekly between 2-3 hour classroom periods and telephone, fax or internet-based e-learning modules.

If you're interested in either program or would like to get more information, reply to this email or give us a call at 93 238 7140.
