For many of us, the ability to say 'No' to other people is something that we do not possess or do not practice enough. It often leads to us having too much on our plate. Because we so willingly say yes, our contributions may go undervalued or unnoticed. We may also disappointment others because we say yes without thinking and then we don't deliver on our commitment.
I have been recommending a great book called "The Simplicity Survival Handbook – 32 ways to do less and accomplish more" by Bill Jensen.
Some of his ideas are radical. You may have to adapt their implementation to your own style and circumstance.

A new employee at the Hotel Arts was asked to clean the elevators and to report back to the supervisor when the task was completed. The employee failed to appear at the end of the day, so the supervisor assumed that like many others he had simply not liked the job and left.
However, after four days the supervisor bumped into the new employee on the 30th floor. He was cleaning in one of the elevators. "You surely haven't been cleaning these elevators for four days, have you?" asked the supervisor, accusingly.
"Yes sir," said the employee, "This is a big job and I've not finished yet - do you realise there are over eighty of them! Two on each floor, and sometimes they are not even there...."
