Bridging
"... also ... and also ... and also ..."
Question: "I use the same links or bridging words all the time. I can literally see my audience falling asleep in front of me! What can I do to keep everyone interested and awake for my next presentation?"
Answer: Lack of bridging is the sure sign of an inexperienced speaker even though he or she may have actually been giving presentations for years. Next time you're giving a presentation, use the following links:
- "... let's move on to the second point ..."
- "... let's consider the following point ..."
- "... let's take a minute to recap ..."
Moving physically from one area of the room to another is an excellent method for speakers to keep the attention of the audience while changing or moving on to the following point in their presentation.
